THE CHRYSALIS OVERVIEW
Are angels real? Doctor Simon Jacobs, who has never believed in anything, is about to find out. Struggling with the deaths of his wife and son, he suddenly finds himself the unsuspecting guardian of a child born severely impaired with multiple afflictions: autistic, unable to speak, cerebral palsied, but the child is unlike any born before him. He is not really impaired, he is an ancient life form known throughout history by many names--the early Hebrews called them Malchaid. The Mesopotamians—Sukalli. We call them… angels.
Angelologists throughout history have studied their existence (angelology), but no one really knows who they are or where they come from. They walk among us unseen, entering our world, not as immortals, but as children; frail and outcast, always impaired in some way. To transcend their human form they must first walk with human footsteps and taste the salt of human tears, learning to love by first being loved. Only then can they transcend their human mortality; a unique metamorphosis that begins with the forming of a chrysalis around the body in which the two physical identities separate. The human body rises to the surface to form the chrysalis as the angel inside completes the transition.
Three events in the child’s life, what we call “miracles”, mark the beginning of the child’s transition into an angel. The first--an old man--a survivor of the German holocaust, enters the last years of his life alone, still suffering the shadows of his past until he encounters the strange silent child (Adam Jordan) in Boston’s Public Garden.
A second miracle soon follows--a little girl dying from leukemia whose last wish is to swim with dolphins, inexplicably drowns when Adam brings her back to life, and all traces of the disease are gone. The third and most spectacular of all, when Adam’s father suddenly realizes what and who is son is amid an epic traffic accident on the Boston I-95 Freeway.
Each life that Adam has touched gathers at the end in a final epic battle to save Adam’s life as Dr. Jacobs desperately searches for a way to unlock the mystery of creation so that Adam Jordan, an angel, will not die before his transition into an immortal can happen. As they all gather atop the tallest building in Boston, the Prudential tower, the clock is ticking, as an ancient prophecy is about to unfold.
Based on real events in history, The Chrysalis will inspire and entertain you while challenging you intellectually. Based on the idea that science and religion are not adverse to one another, but actually important parts of each other. Coining the most important phrase in the book, “The mysteries of the universe were never meant to be secrets”.
